No go for Iced Dough-Vo

Posted by mbsmarketing at 06:31 AM on April 30, 2009

Krispy Kreme has agreed to change the name of of its Iced Dough-Vo doughnut following the threat of legal action from Arnott's Biscuits.

Arnott's, long-time manufacturer of the Iced-Vo Vo biscuit, argued that Krispy Kreme has engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct and had breached its trademark.

Both products are pink and covered with shredded coconut.

The Doughnut formed half of an 'Aussie Classics' offering, the other half being the Rocky Road doughnut.

At a time when 'Australian made' has become a badge of pride again, it's interesting to see something so profoundly American try to position part of its range as 'Aus'. I wonder how successful they'll be?

I would have thought the lamington would have been a safer bet from a legal perspective? Or maybe the pavlova doughnut? Probably best to avoid the Vegemite variety though.
